Join me in taking on the Welfare Food Challenge next week!

Raise the Rates has launched a new challenge, the Welfare Food Challenge. The challenge is to live for a week on the food that a single, able-bodied person on welfare would have – spending only $26. Sign up to take the Challenge below!

Of the $610 a month the BC government provides for a person on welfare, after paying for accommodation, bus tickets and cellphone (necessary to look for work), and basic hygiene only $109 remains for food – less than $26 for a week. There is nothing for clothes, haircuts, or any social life.

The challenge will start on October 16, World Food Day, and will finish on October 23. The week includes World Poverty Day on October 17th.

I am going to document what I eat each day, how much I end up spending, how I feel and anything else that comes up! I am staring mine a but late, likely on the 19th or 20th because I am volunteering at Vancouver We Day and will be up from 6AM to midnight for three or four days in a row so I won’t have time to plan my challenge until after the event.

I am going to try and do it low fat raw vegan style (fruit based) but am looking into the cost of organics vs conventional etc.

I am a Leader Causing Leaders [Part 4]

I learned some very interesting things about currency at Leaders Causing Leaders.

Of course there is the classic “Pay in Forward” concept but there are some other ideas emerging too.

Ideas like a depreciating currency, a yin & yang economy, time banks and bit coin were all new to me.

I also was told: If your product has value you should charge for it. And to find people whose strengths are my weaknesses.

I also got to enjoy a lovely concert from one of my favorite groups Avasa & Matty Love. There was even a cool former Disney artist doing live sketchings… it was a really artistic party!

On the way home I had some lovely conversations in the airport, however the plan was not full so I sat alone on the ride back. I edited photos and pondered my trip. While flying it occurred to me that when it is dark I could be 1 000 000 miles off the ground and never know how high I really am.

I also wrote this poem on the way back:

When you tell me things

I see them more clearly

than the things

in front of my face

I’ll ride my bicycle

across the stars

and dance with the the wor(l)ds

I embrace.

Abundance Cheques

As I was creating an invoice today I came across this website talking about Abundance Cheques!

The Abundance Cheque

The Abundance Cheque

Writing abundance cheques is a method we can use to manifest more abundance in our lives. They are written within 24 hours after a New Moon. The next date and time of the New Moon is at the bottom of this page.

Surprisingly, you really don’t even need to believe that the cheque will work when you write it. You will however be amazed at the results, as you will see increased abundance in your life, in some life area. It is not always financial, but certainly in an area that you need.

Pretty cool stuff. I love Abundance!

Money Matters (or does it?)

My prof today asked us who wants to make less than $30,000 per year after getting their degree and I was the only one who put up my hand.
He asked why.
At the time I said something about not wanting to contribute to consumerism and my desire to live off the land, but I think I should have just said that there are more important things.
Plants are more important.
People are more important.
In the end, money really isn’t a very big part of the equation. But maybe that’s just me living at home still being young and naive…. and permaculting. But hey, be in the moment right? Loving it : )
