…And you said “this is the first day of my life
I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you
But now I don’t care I could go anywhere with you
And I’d probably be happy”

First day of my life.

How do friends become strangers?

A friend shared this video with me and it made me think of two things.

1. The concept of strangers. I think my goal is to not leave anyone I encounter as a stranger. I think that strangers are friends I have not met yet. I feel sad thinking that two people who shared an intimate relationship could be come so estranged. I hope that all of my partners in life call me “friend” regardless of our relationship status. It was really good for me to ponder this because I think there are a few people I have left with something other than an invitation of friendship. I’ve got some contacting to do!

2.Media inspires me! This video reminded me why I make media. It isn’t tell someone else my message. And it isn’t to have a conversation. It is to make people think. To make people question. And to make THEM start conversation. I am so grateful to do what I love everyday!

Let’s all Respect Rebecca Black!

So i’m sure by now you have seen Rebecca Black’s video for the song Friday. It is not the best song on the planet, but it has brought laughter to millions of people. WIN. What bothers me about this isn’t the laughter, but the hateful comments. Imagine if that awkward video you made at the beginning of high school was publicly broadcast all over the internet and millions of people watched it. I had some good ones in my day ahah. Overall though, I’m sure we’ve all had an experience with hate towards us. In high school someone left some cruel messages on my answering machine one day and i’ll be honest. It didn’t feel good. I’ve moved past that incident and forgiven those people, but I can’t imagine experiencing that on the scale that Rebecca Black has to deal with. She gets my major admiration. Plus, if she hadn’t made this song, then this awesome band Tucker wouldn’t have made their awesome acoustic cover! LOVE IT!

In all seriousness though, let’s all show some compassion. I think we should all grow up… so Rebecca has the chance to.

BE LOVE.

New Trend: Musicians making Short Films

Generally, if something happens more than once I assume it is a trend. Suddenly “everyone” is doing it and it doesn’t even take 3 people haha.

Right now, everyone in the music industry is making short films. Kinda interesting. I’m glad they are bring attention to this medium, however, as one of the people in the videos above pointed out to me (guess who? BEST DAY EVER), “I’m a musician, not an actor.” I guess sometimes skills such as acting and skills such as being able to reach a large audience hold different value. If those videos featured random local actors I doubt they would have the thousands of views they have acquired… and then I would have seen them : )

GO MAKE COOL STUFF.

microcredit challenge

SOOOOO This is this huge project i’ve been working on as part of the LEAD Program (I am earning a Certificate in Innovative Leadership).

http://microcreditchallenge.blogspot.com/

THE GLOBAL AGENTS MICROCREDIT CHALLENGE:

The microcredit challenge is simple: your team has one week, $100 and only the limits of its own creativity to create as much social change and raise as much money as possible.

The Microcredit Challenge is a one week competition where Global Agents funds competing teams of 2-5 members with $100 “microloans”. Teams have one week to use their entrepreneurial skills to raise as much money and create as much social change as possible using only this original loan.

At the end of the week the loan and proceeds are paid back to The Global Agents Catalyst Initiative, which are funds used to help developing world entrepreneurs pull themselves and their families out of poverty.

I worked on the blog, poster and these videos. Check it out!

DEADLINE TO REGISTER MARCH 4TH! Pretty much anyone can participate! DOOO IT!

Flobots – Handlebars

Cool animation, awesome message too. It kinda starts out talking about how we can do anything and then goes into bragging (I can show you how to scratch a record) and then finally to how humans are capable of terrible things (I can lead a nation with a microphone). I think we can do anything but it is also up to us to do the right thing. This world is what we make it and we can make it anything we want. We are all so talented and can teach others so much but learning from others instead of teaching is really the most important thing I think. Instead of telling people what you can teach them you should ask people what they can teach you.

LCD Soundsystem – Drunk Girls (HD)

This song is super catchy. I just found out LCD Soundsystem is playing Malkin Bowl at the end of the month as well. Tempting…
